About Delta Database

the science we need for the ocean we want

The Delta Database aims to establish a distribution system for scientific data in the world delta region associated with large rivers, and promote support for the "Mega-Delta" programme by setting an example through targeted resource mobilization, networking and influence.

Estuarine and coasts are critical belts and vulnerable areas for national and regional economic growth. Under the influence of climate change and human activities, coastal zones around the world are facing multiple challenges such as flooding, storm surges, erosion, ecological degradation, environmental damage and public health threats, and are in urgent need of scientific and technological support.

This project establishes international joint laboratories with leading institutions from China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and Romania, etc. Through international academic cooperation, exchange and training of scientific and technical personnel, students training and resource sharing, the project initiates and guides the establishment of an intelligent database, and forecasting and early warning system for water security in coastal zones, and provides deltas with countermeasures for water environment improvement and governance.

Our Hope

Increase community resilience to ocean hazards, and improve the early warning of natural disasters in the delta region.Reduce the impact of natural disasters such as floods and storm surges on human society.

We will enhance technical exchanges in multiple delta regions, and enhance the resistance of delta governments to social problems such as disease and poverty. Enhance the cooperation and cohesion among the governments in the delta region.

Protect and promote restoration of mangrove ecosystems, salt marsh ecosystems and coral reef ecosystems, and maintain the harmony between human social development and environmental health.
